About us
Who we are:
Royal City Gogos are a group of more than 70 New Westminster area women ranging in age from 45 - 85. We are united by our concern for African grandmothers and the children in their care. We host several fundraising events each year. For the Love of Grandmothers Fitness Challenge fortheloveofgrandmothers.weebly.com/ and Solidarity Cycle solidaritycycle.weebly.com/ are two pledge events that have had tremendous response. Our annual Artisan Crafts for Africa sale in November is a New Westminster favourite with 1000 people attending in 2019. We usually plan another event in the spring which may be a fashion show and tea, or a wine-tasting event, a garden tour or whatever we can dream up.
Royal City Gogos are part of a regional network of 20+ groups that make up the Greater Van Gogos. The region stretches from Powell River to Chilliwack. You will find a group in your area! Visit http://www.greatervangogos.org
Thinking of becoming a Royal City Gogo? All are welcome to join!
New members are warmly welcomed. Royal City Gogos are FUN! We meet on the third Wednesday of each month from 1:00 - 3:00 at Unifor, 326 12th Street, New Westminster. We have some members who are working and not able to attend meetings. They support us with at-home activities and they help to staff our events.
Many hands and different talents are needed for our work -- from photography to crafting to administration; from baking to social networking; from putting up posters to organizing fundraisers. Come and join us -- whether you are a grandmother or a "grand other"-- there is a place for you!
Prospective members are welcome to attend a few meetings to try us out before committing. Membership fees are $25 for the year.
Flexibility
Our members lead busy lives. They travel, work, look after grandchildren and ailing relatives. We understand that members will come in and out of active participation as their schedule permits. We are a "no guilt" organization.
Best thing about membership
While we are a working group, friendships are forged, support networks are created. We enjoy each other and the work we do together. Won't you join us?
Want to learn more?
We speak to community groups about our work in support of African grandmothers and the grassroots organizations that are turning the tide of HIV/AIDS.
